Toon Aerts has won the CAPS Urban Cross in Kortrijk, taking his third win of the season after his victories in Gieten and Zonhoven. Aerts also took over the lead in the overall classification of the X2O Badkamers Trofee.

After a strong perfomance in Kortrijk, Aerts was able to finish solo with over a minute ahead of second-placed Eli Iserbyt. The course of the CAPS Urban Cross was – thanks to snow and rain of the last couple of days – suited to Toon Aerts as the rider of Baloise Trek Lions likes racing in muddy, cold conditions.

“I really suffered today”, Aerts comments after the race. “But, I also had a really good day. Before the start, I had two race plans: in the first, I would try to follow if I didn’t feel strong. In the second, I would give all I have if I felt good. Luckily, I could go for the second scenario.”

Aerts now leads the overall classification with a 43-seconds advantage over Eli Iserbyt. “I fought for every second. I had to make sure not to make any mistakes in the final lap, because I was exhausted. When I finally crossed the finish, I even forgot to raise my hands.”

The next round in the X2O Badkamers Trofee is planned at the end of December, where the series will continue in Loenhout. “I’m happy with the advantage. Loenhout, Baal and Brussels are all three though races, in which I still aim high.”
