Christophe Laporte has won the 61 edition of the Grand Prix de Wallonie, triumphing on the Citadel de Namur. The Frenchman won from a 30-rider bunch sprint, ahead of Warren Barguil and Tosh Van der Sande.
As Laporte also won the Circuit de Wallonie in May, the Frenchman offers himself a Walloon double this season to sign the 21st success of his career.
“The course was different from the previous editions. There were many attacks, so the team had to work hard to chase down the escapees. The team did great, we were always on the front and took control of the race. Simon and Rémy were really attentive in the final to limit the chances of a new breakaway. Afterwards, Simone helped me launch my sprint. I still felt strong after the last bend and was able to put in a strong final punch. I’m really happy with this victory and would like to thank my teammates for the huge efforts.”
