Wout van Aert took a convincing victory in the sand and snow at the Zilvermeercross in Mol, winning his first CX as new Belgian national champion. Laurens Sweeck took second.

For Van Aert it’s his fourth victory of the season and his third win in Mol. He quickly distanced himself with Laurens Sweeck and lead the race together until the midway point at which Van Aert pushed the pace. Van Aert created a gap he would hold to the line and crossed the one minute ahead of Sweeck.

The sand sections were a great test for the World Championships in Ostend at the end of this month.

Wout van Aert:

“It’s great to win in the Belgian tricolour. I’ve been national champion with the pros a few times, but I was never been able to show the jersey until today. That’s very special. It was not an easy cross. There was a lot of wind, so it was ideal that Sweeck could keep up with me that long. I put the pressure on him several times, but he managed to stay with me. When I saw that I finally had a gap, I went full steam ahead. Winning in the tricolore is fun. I hope to find a nice photo and I will frame it.”
