Marc Sarreau has won Cholet – Pays de la Loire for the second time in his career. After Lewis Askey and Paul Lapeira were caught in the final, Sarreau was the fastest of a reduced bunch.

Marc Sarreau:

“The finale was intense. Paul Lapeira was in the breakaway on the last lap. In the peloton, we followed the attacks well and when the breakaway riders were caught, I was well-positioned thanks to Clément Venturini. With the headwinds, I pulled the trigger with 250 meters to go. It’s a real relief as it’s been a long time since I’ve won a race. I have experienced bad luck with injuries, crashes, an iliac artery operation, covid… It feels good to win again. It’s the second time I win in Cholet, but most of all, it’s my first win of the season after more than two tough years of fighting back. I hope this victory can be a new beginning. Next Sunday, I will take on the Roue Tourangelle, which I have already won, with good spirits.”

Marc Sarreau’s victory is the first success of 2022 for the AG2R CITROËN TEAM. Thanks to his victory in Cholet-Pays de Loire, Sarreau took the lead in the Coupe de France as well. The AG2R CITROËN TEAM consolidated its first place in the team classification.
