Tim van Dijke will become a professional cyclist at Team Jumbo-Visma as of January 1. The Dutch U23 Champion moves up from the development team - Jumbo-Visma Academy - to the WorldTour formation.
he transfer to the WorldTour team was initially planned in January 2023. However, thanks to the quick development of Van Dijke and the departure of Dylan Groenewegen, the 21-year-old already makes the move in 2022.
Tim van Dijke:
“Of course I was already proud and happy that I would be part of the WorldTour team in 2023 and 2024, but it is great that I can make this transfer one year earlier. I expect to gain a lot of new experiences from which I will learn a lot. Last season already taught me much, and it won’t be different next year. It’s normal that I’ll have tough moments, but those will help me making progress and develop as a rider. It feels good to take a step up again. It is also nice that my brother Mick and I switch to the WorldTour formation more or less at the same time.”
Sportive director Merijn Zeeman:
“At Team Jumbo-Visma, there is no hard line between the WorldTour team and the development team. Each rider gets a personal program that suits him best. Tim is developing at lightning speed. That's why we think he needs a more challenging program, alternating races between the WorldTour team and the development team. Next year, the development team will still guide Tim, but he will also take his first steps in the WorldTour.”
