Timothy Dupont (33) won the second stage of Etoile de Bessèges, surprising big name sprinters and taking the day’s honours in La Calmette.
For Dupont, who timed his sprint perfectly, it’s one of his biggest career wins as he beat some of the best sprinters of the peloton. His victory sees him moving up to second second place on GC, following Christophe Laporte, who finished 5th and could retain his race lead.
“I don’t exactly know what happened in the chaotic finale as I was riding in front of the group and the crash happened behind me. I had to fight for my position, but I managed to keep Nizzolo’s wheel. I timed my sprint perfectly."
"Yesterday, I was less lucky as I was involved in the crash in which I broke my bike. I had no chance of sprinting, while the uphill finish would have suited me. Today, I was able to compete for the stage win. This victory feels great!"
