At the final round of the Telenet UCI World Cup in Hoogerheide, Toon Aerts finished second and claimed the overall World Cup win for the second year in a row.

The Belgian demonstrated his talent and fighting spirit once again as he concludes a strong World Cup season, despite several broken ribs. His consistency gave him a lead of 41 points over runner-up, Eli Iserbyt.

"I'm very happy to win the World Cup for the second year in a row", Aerts stated in a press release of his team. "The training sessions earlier this week gave me the speed necessary to take on this course today. I've suffered a lot in Zolder due to my fractured ribs, but - as it turns out - the result I obtained over there, clearly mattered at the end of the World Cup. It was worth the pain."
