European Champion Michael Vanthourenhout won the UCI World Cup Val di Sole, taking his second World Cup victory and fifth win of the season. On a frozen circuit, Vanthourenhout put in a dominant performance after he went solo halfway the race.
“It came down to make as little mistakes as possible. It was a tricky course and the ground became more slippery as the race evolved. It was a nice battle with Niels Vandeputte. I tried to find my own pace, which was enough to claim victory.”
“My European title was just a little more special, but a victory in the UCI World Cup is of course very nice as well. It’s going really well at the moment. I hope to keep up the good results and form throughout the racing in the coming weeks.”
