Michael Vanthourenhout has won his first UCI World Cup of the season. The European champion took the win after a spectacular mud race, finishing ahead of Tom Pidcock and Lars Van der Haar.

The Druivencross came down to a battle between World Champion Pidcock and new European Champion Vanthourenhout. In the penultimate lap however, Pidcock made a mistake in the descent. A mistake that saw Vanthourenhout going solo. The rider of Bingoal-Pauwels Sauzen had to gave his all to keep up a hunting Pidcock but managed to do so. For Vanthourenthout it’t his second ‘top’ win of the season.

Michael Vanthourenhout:

“I place this victory just below or even at the same level at the European Championships in Namur. It was difficult to make a difference today, but in the technical parts I wasn’t necessarily stronger. It was hard to follow Pidcock on the climbs and it was hard to not make anymistakes, but I’m happy to finish it off. I hope to keep this shape a bit longer.”
