Victor Campenaerts has won the Tour of Leuven after going on the attack in the final 50 kilometres, he was able to beat Zdenek Stybar in a two-man sprint.

Campenaerts took his first one-day race victory (excluding his victories in stage races and timetrial wins) after an attractive day of racing on the same roads that hosted the 2021 World Championships.

Victor Campenaerts:

“This race was a goal for me. I love the route and know it like the back of my hand. The team was also really motivated and we never lost control. I had faith in my sprint, but it’s always difficult. I forced Stybar to take the lead, because he – usually – is faster than I am. But I knew I was in good shape and felt fresh.”

“I would also like to point out that cycling is much more than just winning. For me it means many things, … Friendship is one of them. For people in Africa it means hope. I raced for Team Qhubeka some time ago. They have a project that introduces cycling in the world of the people in Africa, hoping to change their lives.”
