Wout van Aert won the final stage 21 sprint of the Tour de France on the Champs-Élysées, sealing his third stage victory of this year's Tour as he already won the Ventoux mountain stage, yesterday's time trial and now the bunch sprint in Paris. Van Aert started his sprint from 200 metres to go, comfortably holding off Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Fenix) and Cavendish.

This iconic victory is Van Aert’s sixth Tour de France stage win. Another remarkable fact: Wout van Aert won a mountain stage, time trial en sprint in one Tour. Only Eddy Merxkx (1974) and Bernard Hinault (1979) realised this mythical triptych.

Wout Van Aert:

“This Tour has just been amazing. It has been a real rollercoaster. To finish the Tour in this way is beyond my expectations. This victory is priceless. My team, and Mike in particular, did a perfect job. I had confidence in Mike and just had to keep his wheel. Hats off to his lead out. I can’t believe I just won on the Champs-Elysées. ”
